A collection of nine animated short films from the collaborated minds of some of animeís top directors and the Wachoski brothers come as a bit of a disappointment to me. The problem for me didnít lie in the style, but purpose, out of the nine shorts, I only found three or four of them actually giving adequate background information. The ironic thing was that these were the ones that I least enjoyed, I found the smaller, more insignificant pictures to be more entertaining and visually arresting. My favorite of the shorts was actually ďKidís StoryĒ which was a little yarn about a person who wakes himself up from the matrix, the short is essentially a ten minute long chase with some beautiful animation and a wonderful surrealistic approach given by the director. I have no trouble admitting that with these movies, I thought that the prevailing ones were the ones whose approach was that of style over substance. If you enjoyed the Matrix or its sequel Reloaded, or have a love for anime, then definitely check this series of films out. Just donít expect this to increase your understanding of either movie much, just enjoy the trip.
